904L (UNS N08904 / EN 1.4539) is a super austenitic, low-carbon stainless steel alloyed with high Nickel (Ni) and Molybdenum (Mo) plus Copper (Cu). This chemistry is designed for aggressive chemical service, especially where reducing acids (e.g., sulfuric acid) and chloride-containing media are concerns.
Product: Seamless tubing (cold-worked or hot-finished; solution annealed upon request)
Form: Straight lengths / cut-to-length / U-bend (if required)
Surface: Pickled & passivated, bright annealed, polished (as required)
Inspection & Documentation: PMI, dimensional inspection, hydro/NDT options, MTC/EN 10204 (upon request)
Excellent resistance to reducing acids (notably sulfuric acid environments)
Strong resistance to localized corrosion (pitting/crevice) and improved chloride stress corrosion cracking resistance versus standard austenitic grades
Good weldability and formability typical of austenitic stainless steels (with proper procedure control)
Seamless construction supports higher reliability for pressure/thermal cycling and tighter cleanliness control in process lines
“Will 904L survive our acid/chloride chemistry without premature pitting or SCC?”
Solution: 904L is engineered for harsh corrosion service—its alloying balance (Ni–Mo–Cu) is specifically used to improve performance in reducing acids and enhance resistance to chloride attack (pitting/crevice) and SCC compared with conventional austenitic grades.
“Can you guarantee material traceability and incoming quality for critical chemical lines?”
Solution: We support full traceability (heat number control), optional PMI, and inspection packages aligned to project QA plans—helping you reduce incoming risk for high-consequence service.
“Do you control surface condition/cleanliness for corrosion and contamination-sensitive processes?”
Solution: Seamless tubing can be supplied with controlled surface finishes (pickled/passivated, bright annealed, polished). Clean surfaces help preserve the passive layer and improve reliability in chemical service where contamination and crevice sites are unacceptable.
